Oftentimes a recruiter will reach out to connect with you for a job opening, but the connection isn’t quite made for any number of reasons. Now, you’re trying to get back in touch with the recruiter and can’t seem to get an answer! Here’s what to do:
- If you have their email address, send them an email asking if they are still looking for someone to fill the position they had open, and let them know you are still available. In fact, if you are actively seeking a job and taking interviews, it’s very important to tell them. This will let them know you are seriously interested and available (not to mention marketable).
- If the recruiter first sent you an email, email them back with their own original message in the body for them to reference, and let them know you are still available. Give them a time and date when you are free to talk and leave your phone number.
- Give them a call back if you have their number. If they don’t answer, leave a detailed message with your first and last name, the position you’re inquiring about and the time day and time you’re available to speak again. Don’t call nonstop – that is a red flag for recruiters and makes them hesitant to work with you. If you don’t hear back right away, try calling back in another three days.
- Send a text message to the recruiter. If you have their cell number, this is a great way to immediately get their attention. Again, be sure to give your first and last name, the position you’re interested in, and let them know specifically when you’re available to speak.
- In most cases, you should hear back from a recruiter – if nothing else, to at least tell you that you weren’t a great fit for a specific position, but they’ll keep looking for something better for you. If you don’t hear back at all, just remember that recruiters typically work on up to 10 positions at a time and stay extremely busy. The last thing you can do is to just leave them a message thanking them for reaching out, but letting them know you’re moving on with your job search. This leaves you on a good note so that if they do find a more suitable position for you, they will be sure to contact you again.
